These are the ways in which we will accompany
you on your journey through pregnancy and childbirth:
As your doulas, we'll help you prepare for
childbirth with birth positive
prenatal classes. We'll also explain all your labour
and birth options, assist you in writing a birth plan,
and provide ongoing support - including unlimited telephone support - to help
make your pregnancy physically and emotionally more comfortable. We also have
a lending library of over 200 books and videos on topics ranging from prenatal
concerns, labour and birth, to postpartum, breastfeeding, and newborn loss.
birth positive
offers prenatal workshops for partners, as well. If you're a Dad-to-be, the
Dads can do-ula it! © birth partner preparation
workshop can teach you how to fill your unique role in the birthing process
in a way that's empowering to both yourself and your partner. Others planning
on attending a loved one's birth are also welcome.
We recommend you include our in-home breastfeeding
preparation class as part of your prenatal package.
If you'd like, we can also help you create
a belly cast of your pregnant body!
We'll be there for you throughout your labour,
assisting you in your birthing efforts. As doulas,
we can offer experienced help and advice on comfort measures such as massage,
breathing, relaxation, visualization, movement and positioning.
We're also there for you emotionally - reassuring,
encouraging, understanding - as well as for family members who may be present.
The attendance of a doula takes the pressure
off of family members in more practical ways, as well: knowing your doula
is with you, they can take care of practicalities - arranging childcare for
your other children, making meals, filling out hospital forms, as the case
may be - and take a break when needed, knowing that in those busy moments,
you are in good hands. Then, when they are themselves available to support
you more directly, they can relax into their birth partner
role while leaving it up to the doula to remember to take pictures! When quiet
moments alone as a couple are needed, we'll honour your privacy, remaining
nearby where you can call us back when you're ready.
We'll stay with you with continuous support
until approximately one hour after birth, regardless of the length of your
labour. We can assist you in getting started on breastfeeding
right away, and help you settle gently into life with your new baby.

After your baby is born, we'll pay you a
postpartum visit to see how you're doing and bring you your birth pictures
and a written record of the birth. We'll help
you with questions and concerns about breastfeeding,
newborn baby care, physical recovery and emotional adjustment, including postpartum
depression.
After that... you're welcome to stay in
touch and let us know how you, your baby and your family are doing! If you've
participated in a group prenatal class with us, we'll have an optional postpartum
reunion after the arrival of all the babies. A group picture will be taken
at that time, and sent to you by mail as a souvenir.
Postpartum services are also available as a
stand-alone service.
