postpartum services

birth positive ™ doulas provide a variety of postpartum services to suit the needs of families. These can include practical help and assistance, as well as emotional and informational support, including referral to qualified professional help for postpartum depression if needed.

practical help and assistance

We help mothers recover after the birth by providing in-home assistance in the early days, weeks and sometimes months after the birth. We will come to your home and offer assistance with newborn care, light meal preparation and housekeeping, errand running and any other tasks that help mothers rest and adjust to the demanding pace of caring for a newborn.

emotional and informational support

At birth positive ™ we recognize the concerns (and often fears) of becoming a parent. The emotional needs of a new mother are just as important to the well-being of her and her baby as her physical health. New parents have a need to be heard, without judgement, and our doulas are skilled to provide the type of services and support families require during this exciting but challenging transition time.

Professional postpartum support is unlike the support received from partners and family members. We are not invested in you making a particular choice around parenting, only that you have accurate information to make decisions that will most positively affect your life. We can offer helpful suggestions and facilitate links with community services that could be of further benefit to you and your family.

postpartum depression

While hormones and emotions adjust to the change from pregnancy to parenthood, women can experience moods beyond those of pleasure and joy. For some, it's a mild case of the "baby blues," but for others it can manifest as a clinical case of postpartum depression. birth positive ™ doulas have the benefit of meeting with you prenatally and can review with you beforehand any possible risk factors you may have and what to be watching for. If we notice signs of postpartum depression, we will give you a referral to qualified professional help.
